Awesome Starter Train - fun for all July 1, 2010 Sandy My husband and daughter had a blast putting together the track and playing with the train. I also purchased additional track and it took up my entire living floor space. It was amazingly cool. Looking forward to adding additional cars and engines to the track.
junk March 15, 2010 Victor Christianson (New York, New York USA) Hard to assemble track so that it remains intact. Slightest touch by kids, ages 3-6, derailed train. Trains kept coming off, battery powered is very weak. Sent back.
Horrible. Badly designed lasted one hour. Do Not Buy!! January 26, 2010 gringo_caliente (Encinitas, CA USA) Man, everything is wrong with this train. We got one for our four-year old and it lasted an hour with my supervision. The track is really badly designed and hard on your hands when you try to put it together. The 4 (or 6?)C batteries are in the coal car, and the wire connector dealie to the engine was the wrong size and slipped out all the time. Get an O-gauge. Lionel should be ashamed of this product. We went out the next day and bought one of the O gauge stes, which is really good, Winnie loves it.
Lionel Polar Express Train Set - G-Gauge January 21, 2010 MAX (Texas USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought this for Christmas as a present for our 5 yr. old son and he just LOVES it!! Of course we set it up under our tree and when he saw it, he was beside himself! He adores the movie so this train was all he wanted to play with among his other toys! The train arrived a few days before Christmas and I was so delighted with the excellent delivery time! It's a terrific replica of the Polar Express train, just like in the movie, and the conductor's voice sounds just like Tom Hanks!!
Also disappointed! Train too big & falls off track too easily... December 31, 2009 Melanie (WA) There's no making just a round track with this set. Have you ever tried to put something straight on a curve? You would think that the train would bend along with the curve...at the joints...and be easy to get the wheels in line---but think again. Because the engine & cars are so big, it's a pain to try to keep on the track. I was the one fixing it each time it fell off. I've seen a few train sets a long the years and this one is a typical piece of junky plastic made in China. The 'conductor' figurine & 'boy' very quickly disappeared into the abyss of the car with the hobo on top. What is Lionel thinking when you create a trap door? It wasn't until I was going to return it when I tipped it one last time and out came the 'boy' character. It's like shaking a guitar pick out of a guitar, only harder. :) Seriously. The joints eventually stopped staying together. They are just too loosely made. Then the plug in to run the engine is the only thing pulling the cars along. The train set is boring after 5-10 min. My kid's gave up. They liked it, but they definitely lost interest quickly. So we tripped over it under our 7' tree. Even as a circle (leaving 4 straight tracks out) the set is just too big for under a tree, in my opinion. The remote works nicely, but seems cheaply made & not sure how long it would last. The forward/backward switch on the remote is painfullly slow. You have to shut it off as the train is only 1/4 of the way around in order to stop in front of you (and again, that's missing 4 tracks). The price dropped from one hundred to eighty at china mart. It's definitely not worth more than $50.
